Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman is the third daughter of their family. In her early years, Ruth Roman's carnival-barker father died, which forced her mother, Mary Pauline (Gold) to work as cleaner or waitress in order for them to survive. Ruth grew in a poor Boston Tenement area in Massachusetts. She went to school there. She left school after two years in order to study acting. This was not an easy path to pursue. While she was offered a job at a theatre in New York posing as a writer for a mystery publication, no theatre jobs was offered. After a brief time as a club hat girl and a club hat girl, she made the decision to go to her home in Massachusetts and leave her position. The city of Boston was when she worked at night as an actor with New England Repertory Company and the rest of the time she was an usherette. She also been accepted into Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she studied drama.
